Muji + Lego !?

mj1
Owen and I are huge Muji fans (though not quite as big fans as Tim, who once made us spend 5 hours in the Muji in Kichjoji). If you aren’t familiar with Muji, it is sort of like a Japanese Ikea, but better. Now Muji has teamed up with Lego and made some really adorable toy sets. They appear to be available only in Japan, but if I can find a place to order them here, I will definitely let you know.

Hope you enjoy this week’s super-sized Schmetsy celebrating the colors of Fall (and some of the greens, blues and grays that go so well with them)!

International Year of Astronomy

international-year-of-astronomy-2009_82-634x896

Apparently this year is the International Year of Astronomy. Simon Page created this beautiful series of posters for the IYA09 as a self-promotional project. Apparently the IYA09 learned about Simon’s project, agreed that the posters are lovely and will be using them in their promotional work.

The posters are available for purchase here.

Gymnastique Scolaire

I’m particularly enjoying this week’s French Friday (from Words & Eggs) featuring these fantastic images found in pilllpat’s album Milliat (1933-34). There is something simultaneously lovely, creepy and hysterical about the illustrations — like there is a weird ghost trying to escape the little boy’s body.

Tim Burton at the MoMA

We’ve said it before, and I’m sure we’ll say it again, but we are super into Tim Burton. Apparently the MoMA is too; they are housing a Tim Burton exhibition from November 22, 2009–April 26, 2010. I don’t really think there is anything to say other than that you should go see it. I know we would, if we were going to be in New York.

Etsy Schmetsy: Purses!

Purses, handbags, pocketbooks, clutches; they’re all fantastic in my book. If you too are a handbag afficionado, you owe it to yourself to check out these lovely finds from etsy.

Row 1:
This gorgeous metallic upcycled vintage clutch by brittnilaur will be a hit at any holiday fête.
I think this clean, classic black-and-white clutch from JuliaSherryDesigns is lovely and its bright pink dupioni lining really pushes it over the top.
This bag from bagonia was the inspiration for this week’s Schmetsy — I love the modern, feminine take on an old-fashioned doctor’s bag.

Row 2:
Owen bought me this bag from neikodesigns a few years ago for my birthday and it remains one of my favorites — I always get compliments when I carry it and it is incredibly well made.
I always like DrikaB‘s color and fabric combinations, and the Red Salander Wristlet doesn’t disappoint.
I couldn’t resist including a second bag from bagonia; it is just adorable.

Row 3:
I love the texture and detail on this Ninfea (water lily) bag from ninu.
While I do love little bags, I have a tendency to carry a lot of stuff and this Rabbit bag from artoncrafts seems large enough to schlep all my stuff and then some.
This mini-clutch in its de Stijl-esque fabric from Bagitarian would be equally cute on its own or carrying essentials in a larger bag.
