I ordered the book Print Liberation for Owen for Christmas, but it sold out everywhere before it arrived. The book finally got here today, and I am super excited. I’ve been wanting us to get back into traditional screenprinting (instead of just gocco) for a while now and I think this book might give us the push we need.
On Fridays, we thought it would be fun to feature something relating to typography. Today’s “Font-y Friday” is the Muni logo. It was designed by Walter Landor in the mid-seventies and is still in use. Aside from liking it formally, I also think it is great that they haven’t felt it necessary to modernize it with gradients or something.
Umbrellas are an often forgotten but vitally important accessory. Having a nice umbrella can brighten up an otherwise drab day. I already have many options in my umbrella repertoire, but I’ve had my eye on the selection from Seattle-based Pare Umbrella for a while. Now that it is Spring, I think it might be time to get one — I just can’t decide which I like best.
I would really like to take a trip to Kiosk. We tried to go the last time we were in NY, but sadly, it was closed. They sell an amazing selection of everyday objects that they collect during their travels. Their current selections are items from America, but on the website you can still find some of the items from past collections.
Three Potato Four is a great online shop that has a really cool, very well curated mix of design-y and vintage products. On their blog, I ran across this fantastic paper sample from 1966. I love the use of color and am pretty much always a fan of wood type.
Maybe I’m going through a weird reclaiming-my-youth phase, but I’m kind of obsessed with Momiji Dolls. The adorable hand-painted dolls are a modern interpretaion of Japanese Kokeshi dolls, and have a slot in the bottom so you can pass notes to your friends. Each doll comes with a list of likes — Clever Clogs (on the left) likes boys who wear glasses.
This cut paper typography by Hina Aoyama is some of the best art I’ve seen in a long time. I love how delicate and intricate her work is. To view more pieces, click here.
We’ve just added some new Mother’s Day card to our Etsy shop. We’ve been having a lot of fun with hand-drawn type lately, and while there is a lot going on on the card, but we are pretty happy with the results.
Click here for a few other Mom’s Day appropriate cards.
Mother’s Day is May 10th (in the US and Canada, at least).
