May 20th, 2009 by samanthatroy Three of the four experts are going to see the Decemberists play tonight at the newly-restored and reopened, historic Fox Theater in Oakland. Since I’m a big fan of silkscreen, gig posters and the Decemberists, here is a collection of some of their beautiful show posters.

Even more posters, and all the poster credits, after the jump.

May 20th, 2009 by tiniestj I am fantastically fond of felt. Needle felting, pressed-fiber felt, felt in all forms. It’s fuzzy and comforting, yet substantial and strong. Here are a few fabulous felty finds from Etsy.

Some really great prints I wouldn’t mind having on my wall. I especially like that the last two pieces have the words forest + girl in the titles!
All prints are available through artstream.

For those of you in San Francisco, I highly recommend checking out the Modern Ecomony Sample Sale at Fort Mason on May 2nd. The sale is organized by Mateo Ilasco and will feature over 40 great designers including Jill Bliss, Petit Collage, Perch! and Variegated, Inc.
For those of you who aren’t in San Francisco, it looks like Modern Economy will be having a 48-hour online sale beginning September 9th.

This Kern ring set from plastique* was the inspiration for this week’s Font-y Friday. These rings are so geeky, but I think they are hysterical. They remind me of the Veer sweatshirt which I have always wanted, but still don’t have.
Owen bought me this Epershand Necklace from Isette during a fit of etsy shopping a few weeks ago. Each time I wear it, I get a ton of compliments on it. (In case you are wondering, ephersand is the Scots and Scotish English word for ampersand).
Row 2:
Lorem Ipsum “Ketchup and Mustard” shirt from The Select Series at Threadless.com. Almost any shirt with this classic greeked text phrase would be a hit with us, but this one is executed perfectly in streams of ketchup and mustard.
In a similar script, with a tagline that gets funnier with each line, there’s also the “My Baseline is lower than yours….much lower…” shirt from Workerman.
Row 3:
My appreciation of Helvetica has grown hugely since watching Helvetica. Show your love for this classic typeface by wearing this Helvetica Neue Descending tank from typography shop.
Futura Bold necklace from This is Star Jewelry. Owen says, “It’s one cmd-i away from being the perfect accessory to wear to a Barbara Kruger exhibit.”
Row 4:
The Swash Buckle and Kern Sweatshirt from veer.com; Veer has a bunch of great products for the discerning type nerd — these are just two of our favorites.
Row 5:
I bought Owen this Personalized Typography T-shirt from Enzyme Press for Christmas last year. It calls out the typographic terminology of your chosen word (baseline, counter, x-height etc) and you can choose from a variety of typefaces, shirt and ink colors.
Great screenprinted Typography shirt from stiksel. Owen bought a handkerchief from her the other day; it’s pretty fantastic too.

Just a very quick post about something that I came across yesterday. There are some fantastic wallpaper designers out there and Louise Body Wallprint is one that I really like. She creates dreamy wallpapers, fabrics and handpainted cushions. I’m partial to the lace designs (of course), but I kind of love them all.

While looking at Swiss Miss today, I came across this awesome Superhero Magnetic Pixels puzzle and was reminded how much I like Kikkerland. Kikkerland sells an amazingly diverse range of super-clever products from anatomical models to globes to cufflinks. I think this pixel puzzle would make a really fun gift for both designers and superhero fans.
Check out a few more of our favorites after the jump.

I love tape. Owen and I have so much tape that it has its own drawer in our apartment. In fact, “the adhesive drawer” was even mentioned during our wedding ceremony (in the interest of full disclosure, I have to admit that the adhesive drawer houses glues and pastes in addition to tape).
When I was in Japan, I bought some MT Masking Tape. It is beautiful tape made of Washi, and it comes in a ton of really great colors. I wanted to buy some more. After doing some tape research the other day, I learned that MT is now available in 32 new patterns. Unfortunately, you cannot place international orders on the MT site. This sent me into a fit of online searching which was, in the end, fruitful.
I was able to purchase a few of the patterned tapes from Ginko Papers. My tape arrived today, and I am thrilled with it.

But, Ginko Papers only sells a few of the MT tape patterns. And, I wanted more of the solid tape. So, I turned to etsy, where I found not only more of the MT tapes, but some other fantastic tapes as well. I am loving some of the lace tapes, too, but I thought I’d dedicate this post to more traditional and printed tapes.

Row 1: washimatta My set of 20 is en route from Japan!
Row 2: hebeaccessories, RetroNaNa
Row 3: nothingelegant, lovepetitzakkajapan
Row 4: cottonblue, RetroNaNa
Here are a few more useful, tape related sites:

Really nice patterned taps: Tape Swell
updated: a large selection of MT masking tape is also available at Happy Tape

Like the Crackery Crockery from Ornamented Life that I shared with you a while back, Sarah Cihat’s Rehabilitated Dishware brings new spirit and beauty to tableware that had been condemned to a life of rejection. Buying dishes from second-hand stores and retailers’ seconds piles, Cihat re-glazes and modernizes them with a new color and new design. The results are delightful, graphic and playful, all the while making you feel good about giving a loving new home to (what would have been) a stray. Cihat originally started this study of sustainability and renewal as a project for her thesis, and now sells the unique pieces in select boutiques and online.
