I’m not sure where I read about Megan Whitmarsh‘s work, but it’s amazing. I love her simplistic approach–yet very detailed embroidery work, use of color, and touch of humor in almost every piece.

I love having art in my house, but don’t have the budget to be buying it all the time. My favorite go-to place for affordable art is Tiny Showcase. Tiny Showcase releases a new limited-edition print each week on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM (eastern time). They work with a variety of artists so if you don’t like the print one week, chances are pretty good you’ll like one in the next few. The print above is a sold-out letterpress piece by Jen Corace that is still available as a t-shirt. Aaron Ruell is probably best known as Kip from Napoleon Dynamite. He also happens to be a talented photographer and director (of many things, including short films, ads and music videos for bands like The Postal Service). The things I love most about his photography are his use of color and how he finds beauty in the mundane. Yet another San Francisco-based artist (Cody Hudson) whose work just really inspires me and puts a big smile on my face. I really like his use of colors and materials. I ordered the book Print Liberation for Owen for Christmas, but it sold out everywhere before it arrived. The book finally got here today, and I am super excited. I’ve been wanting us to get back into traditional screenprinting (instead of just gocco) for a while now and I think this book might give us the push we need. Like many others, I am completely enamored of woodland creatures. While lots of critters hold a place in my heart, deer are among the most beloved. Since countless etsians share my love of deer, I thought I would share a few of my favorites. Row 1: Backbone, Figs & Ginger I commute on MUNI, BART and CalTrain 5 days, roughly 13 hours a week. I’m not complaining; in some ways it’s awesome. For instance, reading time has been restored to my life in spades. In the last few months I read some good novels, tried to read the most annoyingly terrible book ever to have been called genius, read not as much nonfiction as I should have, and found myself regularly looking over the shelves with to figure out my next read. Aha! Do yourself a favor and check out this amazing animation by Javan Ivey. It is so simple and beautiful — I can’t stop watching it. via The Trendy Girl On Fridays, we thought it would be fun to feature something relating to typography. Today’s “Font-y Friday” is the Muni logo. It was designed by Walter Landor in the mid-seventies and is still in use. Aside from liking it formally, I also think it is great that they haven’t felt it necessary to modernize it with gradients or something. ![]() |
