February 22nd, 2011 by kirstenfinkas Happy Monday! Thought I’d give you all a sneak peak into my newest project–I’m mentoring a coworkers daughter with her senior project–a magazine focusing on real people–her friends. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our first photoshoot (most shots taken at the Lafayette Reservoir in the East Bay). Enjoy!

February 14th, 2011 by kirstenfinkas Happy Valentine’s Day! Ran across some really cute, pretty photos of all the thoughtful breakfasts people on the flickr community, “Share the love” have prepared for each other.
Enjoy!

e posted about Jessica Hische’s Daily Drop Cap way back in September 2009 when it first began. Today marks what was supposed to be the final day of this project as she completes the 12th alphabet.
But, as an added treat, there will be an additional 13th alphabet appearing starting tomorrow. The 13th alphabet will be designed by guest designers like Marian Bantjes, Louise Fili, Friends of Type, and The Heads of State! I’m really looking forward to seeing what the guest designers come up with.

I’m really diggin the style of the project “50 and 50” — where 50 designers are invited to make an illustration of their state’s motto. The colorscheme (a sophisticated red white and blue) and format is consistent, and curator Dan Cassaro has a sort of modern-Americana vernacular + workhorse Futura-y look for the site which works great with the selected (typographically skilled) contributors. It’s good to see this style done well by more folks than just Draplin — though looks like he’ll be doing Oregon.

North Carolina by Matt Stevens — I’d have bought a print of this one if that had been an option; as it wasn’t I figured the next thing was to blog it. Please guys, prints? Or t-shirts? Tennessee by Matt Lehman. Massachussets by Mark Weaver.

Let’s Swap — a new project from Brooklyn-based hyperakt — is an awesome site that enables artists to swap their art for the featured print. The print that is currently available is the Good Morning/Good Night from Dolce Press. It is full of awesomeness — letterpress, glow in the dark and an upbeat message. If you’ve got something to trade, go submit your swap and see if you get chosen, otherwise the print can be purchased from Dolce Press’s shop.

UPDATE: Our CMYHey Triangle print was chosen by Dolce Press as a swap. You can go vote for us to put us in the running to maybe be a featured swap in the future!

I have a bit of a problem with buying more kitchen stuff than I have room for. But, that doesn’t mean I want these from Ladies & Gentlemen and less. The blue would look super lovely in my house, but so would all of the other colors. They are available for purchase here.
