So geeky, so fabulous and a little absurd, it’s the The Impossible Instant Lab! The latest product from The Impossible Project aims to help revive the joy of Polaroids, this time taking pictures from your iPhone and turning them into the instant photos of yesteryear. I used to love taking Polaroids at parties and I cannot wait to play with this crazy melding of old and new technologies, check it out here.
Jessica and I have both pitched in on Kickstarter to make this iPhone-polaroid-fabulousness a reality. The Impossible Instant Lab has reached its goal with 23 days still to go on the fundraising effort. There is still time to get yours; visit kickstarter before October 8th to pre-order the Instant Lab.

This Christmas I made my family Blurb books from some of our past vacations. I had such a good time going through literally thousands of pictures — though it did take forever. I thought it would be fun to share them here, so I’ll be uploading some of them over the next few days. one thing i remember from this vacations was the Sicily flights can be expensive but totally worth it. This first bunch is from Taormina, Sicily.
Alexa Meade‘s art is awesome. Sure, it is a tiny bit reminiscent of the Pageant of the Masters, but the Pageant of the Masters is pretty awesome too. Her work is a true multi-media experience — an amazing combination of painting, installation, performance and photography. Check out a bunch more work, plus some process shots, in her portfolio and on flickr.
Oh, and here are some videos of Alexa showing her process and speaking about her work.
Aren’t these high-speed photographs from Appuru Pai great? I love that they look abstract at first glance and but upon further inspection you begin to see lights and cars and buildings. So pretty! Check our more of Appuru Pai’s here.
I’d meant to post about these a while back when I first saw—and subsequently fell in love with—them. Not only is the animation well done, the images themselves are lovely. I think subtle the movement is in some of them is just amazing.
These cinemagraphs from Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg are already popping up all over the place, like on Gilt Taste (need an invite to Gilt? click here) and The New York Times, and I expect we will be seeing a lot more of them in the future.
Since tomorrow is the first official day of Summer and the weather is remarkably beautiful today, I thought New Zealand based photographer Andrew Smith’s (AKA CubaGallery) work would be perfect. He has a great sense of color and composition and these images make me want to run around outside. Cuba Gallery also has a blog where he talks about his post-production techniques using Adobe Lightroom and shows some pretty impressive before-and-after images for his photographs.
While out and about in warm LA this past weekend, I ran across this building that intrigued me–I couldn’t exactly tell if it was old or new. Kind of reminds me of the half-timbered buildings I saw throughout England. So many interesting things to discover when traveling. Hope you all had a nice, relaxing weekend.
These photos that Andrea McQuade took of her trip to Iceland confirm my thoughts of wanting to visit. I can’t get over how untouched and beautiful the natural landscapes are.
